Our Technology Technology - Imaging (PET/CT) PET/CT procedures are primarily used in oncology to detect cancer and to examine the effects of cancer therapy by characterizing biochemical changes in cancerous tissue. Nearly all of these procedures involve the use of 2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) to target cancer. For oncology, clinicians contend that FDG-based PET/CT scans are valuable for diagnosis, staging and restaging of cancer, and for evaluation of the patient’s response to therapy. PET/CT is presently the most important and most frequently ordered test for the treatment of cancer. FDG, a sugar (glucose), is not a cancer-specific targeting agent. Tissues and organs that normally metabolize high amounts of glucose are visualized – i.e., brain, heart, muscle, kidney, bladder, and bowel. Inflammatory, infectious and post surgical conditions are also visualized. PET images are confounded by this normal background activity, making images difficult to interpret. For oncology, FDG-based PET/CT scans are generally limited to the detection of tumors larger than 5 millimeters. FDG-based scans fail to provide the surgeon with sufficient information concerning the full extent of disease because of their inability to detect small tumors and cancerous lymph nodes. (See below)
Enlyton's Solution Enlyton is integrating its humanized ATA series antibody targets into cancer-specific molecular tracers for use in imaging to more accurately reflect the extent of cancer. ATA series antibodies specifically target TAG-72, a protein expressed only on the surface of human adenocarcinomas. ATA antibodies bind to early and late stage tumors, as well as cancerous lymph nodes involved in the disease process. Previous studies demonstrate they offer significant value as a prognostic tool. These properties of the ATA family of antibodies will initially be demonstrated in a Phase I PET/CT imaging trial. It is expected that imaging tracer embodiments of these antibodies will be employed in PET/MRI, SPECT/CT and other imaging modalities. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
